QOSMO International School Malaysia International School tour No.13

Updated: Oct 16

QOSMO International School

The Malaysian International School we visited this time is QOSMO International School, located in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. This school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. While touring the school with the staff, I felt a very friendly impression as I saw various students engaging in conversation with the staff. The exterior has a cozy, brick construction. QOSMO is an international school that is within walking distance from the station, about a 13-minute walk from Asia Jaya LRT station and about an 8-minute walk from Taman Jaya LRT station. It is rare to find an international school that is easily accessible on foot from the station.

There is no swimming pool, but there are three soccer fields, although they are not so big.

Below is an excerpt from the school's website.

Qosmo International School focus on the holistic development of every child by focussing on the core aspects of confidence and knowledge. They understand that every child is unique and we ensure that their individuality is maintained and honed so that they grow up to be responsible world citizens.

Qosmo International School uses learning technology to assist the teaching requirement in the classroom.  Each classroom is equipped with projectors and teachers are adept in using technology to teach. They encourage them to be involved in their child’s progress and provide parents with access to students’ performance. They consistently look at new ways to implement technology in the classroom and at home to make learning more efficient and convenient for all, without overdoing it.

Qosmo International School's unique educational approach is based on a student-centered, outcome-focused learning model rather than a teacher-centered one. Following the motto of conducting education and learning simultaneously, each student is evaluated individually, and students are not separated based on standardized grades. Here, the RISE and SOAR programs (*1) play a significant role.

Additionally, Qosmo believes in having individual guidance, so each student will have a homeroom teacher as well as a mentor. The mentor will be in charge of assisting the student assigned to them throughout the term, ensuring they are doing well in academics and helping them with personal issues, if any.

RISE and SOAR Programmes QOSMO signature RISE and SOAR Programmes are tailor-made to ensure that students are not treated differently on the basis of their performance in school. We respect the individuality of students and do not separate them based on standardised performance.

The RISE for primary students and SOAR for secondary will have practical interludes and simulations in the classroom to teach them various principles that they can use to lead their lives and set good examples for others. QOSMO have mixed classes and do not stream as research shows that this is bad for student learning, even the highest performers. Students will only be separated from each other in each class in order to go to classes of specialty. They will be empowered and independent and their parents will not have to worry about the perception within the classroom.

Reading Programme

The global pandemic has impacted the world of education in an unprecedented manner. One of the results of analyses carried out on post-pandemic learning was that many children were behind on their reading. This is echoed in findings here in Malaysia as well. During online classes, our educators were aware of how reading fluency deteriorated gradually during those pandemic months.

To help deal with this in a constructive and empowering manner, we are initiating a complimentary and complementary Reading Programme to provide in-person guidance and coaching to the younger children who require more practice to improve their fluency in reading.

This will not only hone their reading skills, but also boost their confidence in using the language and thus, their proficiency. All these are the crucial factors that will impact their academic excellence.

◎Preschool: A Child’s Early Education

For a good preschool curriculum, it is critical to have a hands-on, practical approach for the development of young children. At Qosmo, we feel that this is the most important part of a child’s education, and is the foundation for a healthy growth. Our trained teachers aim to nurture the students to be their best and give as much involvement to the children during lessons.

◎PRIMARY:A Child’s Formative Years

The aim of our Cambridge Primary programmes is to help our children to develop a range of knowledge and skills within our core subjects, providing a solid foundation upon which to build for later stages of education. The Cambridge system is a flexible system which allows us to employ various kinds of methodology of our own, to which we have added a number of childhood learning techniques across all levels of primary. All teachers undergo our special training in order to be able to observe, teach, assess, and guide the primary students while also attending to their psychological needs and development at that early age.

Secondar The Secondary Programme forms part of the Cambridge International Curriculum, which takes students from the primary stage through to university entrance level. At this level, they will also begin their checkpoint examinations in order to track their progress and demonstrate to their parents how they fare against the international standard as we prepare them to excel in their studies at that level.
